Q.
What is the best-looking Ferrari ever built? -- A.J. (via Internet)
A. That's a tough question, considering all the highly talented
stylists who have come up with Ferrari bodies. However, the
breathtaking 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Speciale is among the
best-looking Ferraris. Only one was built, using a Ferrari GT SWB
(short-wheelbase) chassis from Ferrari and styled by Italy's highly
respected Bertone coachbuilder's genius stylist Giorgetto Giugiaro.
Remarkably, Giugiaro was still in his early 20s. His design paid
tribute to Ferrari's race cars by dividing the grille area into two
sections via a protrusion referred to as a Sharknose, although the rest
of the car was unique. This auto was designed for Giugiaro's boss,
Nuccio Bertone. Famous in Ferrari collector car circles, the
car sold for $16.5 million at Gooding and Company's Pebble Beach
Auction in August, 2015.
Q. Would you buy a Volkswagen
with a
diesel engine? -- G.S. (via Internet)
A. VW diesels are really good cars, and you likely can get one at an
appreciably reduced price. Ignore the "greenies," television talking
heads and self-serving politicians elbowing each other for TV time
concerning VW's diesel emissions issue.
Q.
